Our club is run by a committee of volunteer members, elected by the club. They keep our meetings running, look after new members and help everyone get the most from Toastmasters. Come and say hello at any meeting.
Here’s what each committee role does, and what to ask them about. To see who currently holds each role, visit our Committee page.
President
The President leads the club and sets its tone and direction. They open and close our meetings, chair the committee, set the club’s goals and keep us on track to become a Distinguished club.
Go to them for: anything about how the club is run, ideas for the club, or a concern you’d like to raise.
Vice President Education (VPE)
The VP Education is the go-to person for the Toastmasters education programme. They plan meeting agendas, assign meeting roles and manage the speaking schedule. On ToastHost, they approve role requests and schedule speech requests. They also approve your Pathways level completions in Base Camp.
Go to them for: booking speeches, role questions, changing or cancelling a confirmed role, choosing a path, and Pathways level approvals.
Vice President Membership (VPM)
The VP Membership helps the club grow. They welcome guests, answer questions from people thinking of joining, and guide new members through the joining process.
Go to them for: joining the club, renewing your membership, or bringing a friend along as a guest.
Vice President Public Relations (VPPR)
The VP Public Relations promotes the club to the outside world. They look after our website and social media and share news about what the club is doing.
Go to them for: sharing club news or photos, our social media, or anything on our website.
Secretary
The Secretary keeps the club organised. They take minutes at committee meetings, keep club records and the membership list up to date, and update club and officer details with Toastmasters International.
Go to them for: updating your contact details on the club’s records, or club records and paperwork.
Treasurer
The Treasurer manages the club’s finances. They keep the accounts, manage the club budget and collect membership and renewal dues and send them to Toastmasters International on time.
Go to them for: paying your membership dues, or any question about club fees or payments.
Sergeant at Arms (SAA)
The Sergeant at Arms makes sure the meeting space is ready and welcoming. They set up the room, look after the club’s equipment and materials, help speakers with what they need, and hand out agendas and name badges.
Go to them for: help with equipment or room set-up for your speech, or helping out with set-up on the night.
Immediate Past President
The Immediate Past President is the club’s previous President. They stay on the committee to offer advice and guidance to the President and help keep things running smoothly.
Go to them for: advice drawn from experience of running the club.
Vice President Mentorship
This isn’t one of the standard Toastmasters International officer roles. It’s a role our club has added. In Toastmasters, every new member should have a mentor, and our VP Mentorship looks after mentoring in the club.
Go to them for: getting a mentor, or offering to mentor a newer member.
Not sure who to ask?
Ask any committee member at a meeting, or email us at speak@cityoflondontoastmasters.org and we’ll point you in the right direction.
Role descriptions are based on Toastmasters International’s club officer roles guide.
